Case Study – Microchipping

With just over 1 month until the law changes we thought it would be interesting to share the current situation with found dogs and microchips so that there is some understanding as to what Dog Wardens and shelters are up against and see how this changes over the coming months.

Example: West Lancs area

In February this year there were 11 dogs seized by the wardens.

Out of 11 dogs, 6 were microchipped.

Out of 6 microchipped dogs, only 2 had up to date owner information registered.

If your dog is not microchipped yet we are still offering £5.00 microchipping throughout March so take action now!

If you need advice on updating the details on your microchip please call us!

Microchip Amnesty

Microchip your dog for just £5.00 with us!

With just over 6 weeks until the new Microchip Legislation comes in we are pleased that so many people have already taken up our offer of reduced price microchipping for their dog, which is available throughout February and March.

Remember, from 6th April you will be breaking the law if your dog is not microchipped or if it is incorrectly registered!

If you are not sure if your dogs microchip is correctly registered we will gladly scan it for FREE and check for you. We can then advise on how to get it updated.

Thank You!

Leigh Dogs and Cats Home wish to thank their loyal clients and friends who continue to support our work.
We note that there have recently been some spurious allegations made by persons unknown on social media and in leaflets. We are pleased to report that Wigan Council have investigated these matters and have found that there is no basis to any of the points raised.
Accordingly, we wish to assure our clients and the local community as a whole that we continue to offer “Business as usual”.
We are open to all members of the public 7 days a week and offer rehoming for dogs and cats, private boarding kennels and cattery, pet and tack shop as well as a pet grooming salon opening soon..

COMPULSORY MICROCHIPPING – BE PREPARED

As you probably know, from 6th April this year it will be required by Law that all dogs are microchipped.

We see a lot of found dogs here and we have noticed that more dogs are getting microchipped but sadly there are still many that have not been and a large percentage of those that have been microchipped have out of date keeper details registered to them.

Last year alone we microchipped around 1200 dogs. This includes dogs that we microchipped prior to being rehomed and those that were done when they were collected by their owners after being picked up by a warden. We also helped many more owners to re-register out of date details on their microchips.

If your dog is not microchipped or has incorrect keeper details registered to it after 6th April you are liable to be fined up to £500.00.

All dogs from 8 weeks of age will have to be microchipped and correctly registered. There are no exceptions other than an official exemption provided by a Veterinary Surgeon for health reasons. This will need to be on an official form.

If your dog is incorrectly registered you are welcome to call us for advice on updating your details.

If your dog still needs microchipping then all vets will usually offer this service. We can microchip your pet for £12.50.

During February and March we will be offering microchipping for just £5.00 to try and encourage people to get ready before the Law comes in. Anybody collecting a stray dog will be offered this Free of Charge.
